The metamorphosis- expectations
I have read the metamorphosis in high school and though i remember the general plot lines i also remember i was dissatisfied with the story. Back then it seemed very cruel (especially the ending for those of you who have already read it). I do not fully remember the in dept literary analysis we conducted for this book so it will be interesting to review it and remember what aspects i liked and which ones i didn't. once again this is not one of my favorite literary works to study. I preferred The Stranger by Camus for example. However there is something to be said about the commentary made on the "marginal" just like in The Lover and it also has ties with Chronicles of a Death which we will see later. Hopefully you guys have great expectations despite my blurb. It is after all a classic of literary studies!

studid typos!
I also read The Metamorphosis in high school and remember feeling very dissatisfied. What we mostly did in lit classes in high school was look for symbolism, so I am hopeful that through the analysis we do in FL200 I will appreciate the book more.
I read the metamorphosis my senior year of high school and then again this year. It is a story about familial obligation/guilt, alienation, and the concept of absolute love. The Metamorphosis explores roles within a family (that of the main character's) as well as what happens when a role is not fulfilled. An awesome book!
I actually loved The Metamorphosis the first time that I read it. The imagery, to me is so ridiculous. Also, I think that every person can relate to the main character at some point in his life, even though his feelings are extremely exaggerated. This year, I think that I am going to look into the Freudian analysis, since that is a criticism I don't have much experience with and is interesting. Also, if you look at the critical essays in the back of the book, there is some really intriguing commentary there!
I agree that this is not one of my favorites... and the first time I read it through I also thought it was quite cruel and then I started wondering if maybe this change in his life was self-inflicted. I mean he hated his life at least from what I can tell he beat himself up over it and maybe being transformed into a bug or whatnot was what was better, or intended for him.
